sat寫作用詞技巧

1.如果使用一個更加正式的單個動詞,比其相對應的短語動詞聽起來更加貼切自然,最好使用正式的單個單詞。

2.避免使用個人化的或會話樣式的文體格式(聽起來好像正同考官聊天)。因此,盡量不要使用詞,如I, me, my, you, we, us 和 our這樣的單詞。雖然這些單詞廣泛應用于非正式用語和口語中,通常認為在正式的學術(shù)性寫作中,這些單詞太過個人化,太過隨意。

3.如果考生愿意,考生可以使用代詞I來發(fā)表自己的看法。但是,在開篇和文章結(jié)尾使,盡量避免I的出現(xiàn)。這樣,考生就可以避免使自己的文章太過個人化,具有太多的會話風格。

4.避免使用經(jīng)常在日常會話中出現(xiàn)的單詞和短語,因為這些單詞或短語不太適合應用于學術(shù)寫作中。字典中經(jīng)常在這些詞的前面標有“informal。(非正式)”的標簽??忌趯懽髦?,要使用更加正式得單詞和短語。

5.雖然在非正式的寫作中,常常使用縮寫單詞(如。, can’t,won’t,shouldn’t 和 hasn’t),但考試一定要避免在正式的學術(shù)寫作中出現(xiàn)類似的縮寫單詞。

6.避免在正式的學術(shù)寫作中使用縮略語。不要寫yrs,e.g。這樣的單詞(分別代表原始的拉丁文中的exempli gratia和“for example(例如)”的意思)。也不要使用i.e. (原始的拉丁文id est的縮略語,意為“that is(也就是)”)。 而應該寫出這些單詞相對應的形式(years, for example 和that is)。

7.不要使用口語化的英語或俚語。 口語化的英語是一種非正式的英語類型,它包括詞像gonna 或wanna這樣的縮寫單詞,還有例如ain’t nothin’和dead as a doornail這樣的短語。

字典中通常在口語化英語前面標上“colloq?!边@樣的注解。由于口語化的英語和俚語通常是應用于口語而不是寫作中,如果出現(xiàn)在正式的學術(shù)寫作中,文章就會太過口語化,而且缺少信度。

一:不要用空洞的單詞和詞組

1. 一些空洞的單詞或詞組更本不能為句子帶來任何相關(guān)的或重要的信息,完全可以被刪掉。比如下面的句子:

When all things are considered, young adults of today live more satisfying lives than those of their parents,in my opinion.

這句話當中的“when all things are considered”和“in my opinion”都顯得多余。完全可以去掉。改為:Young adults of today live more satisfying lives than their parents.

2. 有些空洞和繁瑣的表達方式可以進行替換,例如:

Due to the fact that our grandparents were under an obligation to help their parents, they did not have the options that young people have at this point in time.

“due to the fact that”就是一個很典型的繁瑣的表達方式的例子,可以替換,簡化為下面的表達方式:

Because our grandparents were obligated to help their parents,they did not have the options that young people have now.

二:避免重復

1. 盡量避免重復使用同樣的詞匯?;蛘哂械臅r候雖然詞匯沒有重復,但意思卻有重復。這時候可以做一些簡化的工作。例如下面這個例子::

The farm my grandfather grew up on was large in size.

Large 對一個farm來說就是size方面的large,所以in size可以去掉,改為:The farm my grandfather grew up on was large.

更簡潔的表達方式為:My grandfather grew up on a large farm.

2. 有時一個詞組可以用一個更簡單的單詞來替換,例如:

My grandfather has said over and over again that he had to work on his parents" farm.

這里的over and over again就可以改為repeatedly,顯得更為簡潔:

My grandfather has said repeatedly that he had to work on his parents" farm.

三:選擇最恰當?shù)恼Z法結(jié)構(gòu)

選擇合適的語法結(jié)構(gòu)可以使句子意思的表達更為精確和簡練。雖然語法的多樣性也很重要,但選擇最恰當?shù)恼Z法結(jié)構(gòu)仍然是更為重要的考慮因素。以下原則是在考慮選擇何種語法結(jié)構(gòu)時可以參考的原則:

1. 一個句子的主語和謂語動詞應該能夠反映句子中的最重要的意思。例如:

The situation that resulted in my grandfather"s not being able to study engineering was that his father needed help on the farm.

從意思上來分析,上面這句話需要表達的重要的概念是“grandfather"s not being able to study”,而在表達這個概念時,原句用的主語是situation,謂語動詞是was,不能強調(diào)需要表達的重點概念,可以改為下面這句話:My grandfather couldn"t study engineering because his father needed help on the farm.

2. 避免頻繁使用“there be”結(jié)構(gòu),例如下面的句子:

There were 25 cows on the farm that my grandfather had to milk every day. It was hard work for my grandfather.

可以改為:My grandfather worked hard. He had to milk 25 cows on the farm every day.

更簡潔的句式為:My grandfather worked hard milking 25 cows daily.

3. 把從句改為短語或單詞。例如:

Dairy cows were raised on the farm,which was located100 kilometers from the nearest university and was in an area that was remote.

簡介的表達方式為:The dairy farm was located in a remote area, 100 kilometers tothe nearest university.

4. 僅在需要強調(diào)賓語而不是主語的時候,才使用被動語態(tài)。例如:

In the fall, not only did the cows have to be milked, but also the hay was mowed and stacked by my grandfather"s family.

本句不夠簡潔的原因是本句的重心應該是“忙碌的家庭-my grandfather"s family”,而使用了被動語態(tài)后,仿佛重心變成了cows和hay。下面的表達方式是主動語態(tài),相對來說更簡潔一些:In the fall, my grandfather"s family not only milked the cow but also mowed and stacked the hay.

5. 用更為精確的一個動詞來代替動詞短語,例如下面這句話:

My grandfather didn"t have time to stand around doing nothing with his school friends.

Stand around doing nothing其實可以用一個動詞來表達,即loiter:My grandfather didn"t have time to loiter with his school friends.

6. 有時兩句話的信息經(jīng)過組合完全可以用一句話來簡練地表達,例如:

Profits from the farm were not large. Sometimes they were too small to meet the expenses of running a farm. They were not sufficient to pay for a university degree.

兩句話的信息可以合并為下面這句更為簡潔的句子:Profits from the farm were sometimes too small to meet operational expenses, let alone pay for a university degree.

sat寫作靈活應用詞匯的技巧

一.具體—抽象

所謂具體到抽象指的是把一個單詞的具體含義進行引申從而用在某些抽象的場合。下面我們來看幾個例子。

1.Bask. Bask這個單詞表示曬太陽,由此可以引申出沉浸,沐浴在(勝利,喜悅,贊美,關(guān)懷中)。如bask in the glory of world cup (沉浸在世界杯的榮耀中)或者bask in jubilance.(沉浸在喜悅中)

2.Brew. Brew這個單詞也很熟悉,表示釀酒,一引申就可以變成醞釀這個抽象含義。如每逢戰(zhàn)爭即將打響,我們可以說Storms are brewing on every frontier.(每個邊境上都醞釀著風暴。)

3. Swallow. Swallow表示吞咽東西,也就是不加咀嚼地吃東西,因此當我們在描述一個人不加思考就輕易相信別人時,就可以使用這個單詞。如Surely, I know better than to swallow his words.(我當然不會傻到就這樣相信他的鬼話)有時也可以表示取消,如He had to swallow his words。(他不得不取消前言。)

4.Gnaw. Gnaw指的是小動物,如嚙齒類動物,咬,啃。稍加引申就變成了使煩惱、折磨。如The feeling of guilt gnawed at my conscience day and night.(內(nèi)疚日夜折磨著我的良心。)

5. Wean. Wean原義指新生兒斷奶,引申為使斷絕、使戒掉、使放棄。如These plants have succeed in weaning from the green house environment.(這些植物已經(jīng)成功擺脫了對溫室環(huán)境的依賴。)

二.名詞—動詞

不同詞性之間的轉(zhuǎn)換也是小詞活用的一個思路,這里我們講講相對較為普遍也容易掌握的名詞到動詞的活用。

1.Bridge. Bridge,橋梁。橋梁的作用很顯然是連接,因此它做動詞就可以表示連接、消除(隔閡、鴻溝等)。如bridge chasm, silence, difference, generation gap(彌合裂縫,打破冷場,消除分歧,彌合代溝)

2.Budget. Budget名詞表示預算,動詞為合理安排。如She is extremely busy, so she has to budget her time carefully.(她忙極了,所以必須好好安排時間。)

3.Toy. Toy是玩具的意思,由這個名詞演變出的動詞可以表示漫不經(jīng)心地考慮、擺弄。如She toyed with a pencil, brooding on something like a hen.(她擺弄著鉛筆,似有心事。)

4.Bracket. Brackets 復數(shù)形式表示括號。動詞bracket指把某和某歸入一類,相提并論,Jones and Smith were bracketed in a tie for the first prize. (約翰和史密斯雙雙被評為頭獎。)

三.由人到物

所謂由人到物是指這個單詞原本形容人,而在某些場合中可以采用“擬物”的手法,形容物體或事件。

1.Flatter. Flatter指諂媚、奉承。擬物后可以表示(照片、畫像等)比真人好看。如You are surely flattered by this dress.(你穿這衣服更漂亮了。)

2.Flirt. Flirt最熟悉的意思是調(diào)情,而事實上,它還可以表示不當真的對待、玩笑地對待。如Flirt with the idea of resigning (腦子里一直浮現(xiàn)辭職的念頭)

3. Conspire. conspire形容人同謀、密謀,也可以形容事物聯(lián)合發(fā)生共同導致(不良后果)。如Wretched weather, nasty food and disgusting companions conspired to reduce my picnic to be a wet blanket.(糟糕的天氣,難吃的東西,不喜歡的人,我的野餐真倒霉。)
