What can be created in sudden but last forever? And what can you give to ohers but you do not have any? Hard question but simpleanswers: one is art; the other is freedom. Obviously, art calls for talents, passion, dedication and most essentially, freedom. In fact, artis to governmental restriction what chains are to slave dancers.
To measuer treasures of human;society, it can be divided into two aspects: material and spiritual. Undoubtly, art is more vital thanany other spiritual mode. By constrast, few people and governments respect art as high as it should be. When it comes to art, averagepeople will regard it as a fashional or even fancy budge, but not valuable treasures of mankind, let alone understanding and thenrespecting the masterpiece of works.
Wha's worse is that some authourities make all efforts to limit the normal improvement of fine arts. For one thing, they hold that artcannot boost or trigger the economic and social developments. For another thing, it is no use purchasing art activities, for it cannotchange the present situation of living materially. However, it is evidently wrong to attribute art to vulgar materialism. Art dose bringpeople spiritual consolation, directly and indirectly.
Therefore,no matter which standpoint you may agree, giving art reasonable and continous supports is the best way to socialdevelopment, human process and cultual continuity. I qute a classic sentence from a famous article entitled "Give Me Liberty or GiveMe Death"by Patrick Henry, the greatest writer in American history,"I know not what course others may take; but as for me,giveme liberty or give me death! "
