Whether or not a person achieves his aims in life is mostly a question of luck? (2020/10/31)
Discussion
關鍵詞:aims in life + mostly + luck
Many people think that luck plays the most significant role in a successful life, but in my view, to achieve success in life, one needs continuous hard work, though luck does help in some cases.
Luck may assume different forms and help people in various ways. A man luckily born into a wealthy family will stand a better chance of becoming a successful businessman than one with poor family background. A person with a naturally good voice will be more likely to achieve his aim of becoming a great singer than one without.
However, luck alone cannot make a successful life. The most essential element of success is hard work. Therefore, even without rich parents, a man could still become a successful businessman if he works hard enough. Likewise, without a naturally good voice, a man could still become a great singer as long as he keeps on practising. In fact, we have seen many people who have failed to achieve their life's aims even though they appear to be very lucky in the first place. One good example is Zhong Yong in a Chinese story, who is so luckily talented as to be able to compose excellent poems as a seven-year-old child. Then his parents treat him as a money-making machine, showing off his talent around the country, and pretty soon he loses his natural talent and becomes an average child.
My conclusion, then, is that while luck may contribute to our success in life, hard work is what really makes us successful. As is suggested in the old saying "God helps those who help themselves", I believe hard work should become the engine of our life, and luck can at best be the accelerator.

Many people think that luck plays the most significant role in a successful life, but in my view, to achieve success in life, one needs continuous hard work, though luck does help in some cases.
02
Luck may assume different forms and help people in various ways. A man luckily born into a wealthy family will stand a better chance of becoming a successful businessman than one with poor family background. A person with a naturally good voice will be more likely to achieve his aim of becoming a great singer than one without.
(3) Various
(4) Stand a better chance of...

However, luck alone cannot make a successful life. The most essential element of success is hard work. Therefore, even without rich parents, a man could still become a successful businessman if he works hard enough. Likewise, without a naturally good voice, a man could still become a great singer as long as he keeps onpractising. In fact, we have seen many people who have failed to achieve their life's aims even though they appear to be very lucky in the first place. Then his parents treat him as a money-making machine, showing off his talent around the country, and pretty soon he loses his natural talent and becomes an average child.
(2) Alone
(3) Likewise 同樣
(4) Keep on doing...
(5) In the first place
(7) Average 普通的

My conclusion, then, is that while luck may contribute to our success in life, hard work is what really makes us successful. As is suggested in the old saying "God helps those who help themselves", I believe hard work should become the engine of our life, and luck can at best be the accelerator.
(2) Contribute to...
(3) Engine 引擎
(4) At best
(5) Accelerator 加速器
